          I was thinking about writing an article for Mother’s Day and Memorial Day this month, but then I thought, well, what other holidays are in the month of May? So, like everyone in today’s world, I googled holidays in May. There were some interesting ones that came up. Of course, Labor and May Day came up as did Cinco de Mayo and the National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

          There were some really weird days, too. There is a National Bike Day, NASCAR Day, Tap Dance Day, a Batman Day, which should make you smile on National Smile Day. There were a lot more, but one other one that I’ll mention is World Naked Gardening Day (I hope there aren’t any roses to prune!).

          This last one reminds me of the new pastor who was making the rounds to meet his parishioners. All went well until he came to one house. It was obvious that someone was home, but no one came to the door even after he had knocked several times. Finally, he took out his card and wrote on the back: Revelation 3:20 and stuck it in the door. The next day, as he was counting the offering,  he found his card in the collection plate. Below his message was the notation Genesis 3:10.

          Revelation 3:20 reads: “Behold I stand at the door and knock.  If any man hear my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me.”

          Genesis 3:10 reads: “And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked.”

          I could also write about the many Mothers and ladies who have been Mothers to countless children over the years. Again, many have sacrificially served children the world over, showing love in sometimes very difficult situations. Those Mothers deserve more than one day a year to be recognized for their selfless love, but, especially on Mother’s Day, we should honor them in a way that shows our appreciation.

          I have one other day that we should recognize, The National Day of Prayer on May 6. I don’t know if you know the history or not, but here’s a brief synopsis from their webpage.

          This year marks 70 years since Reverend Billy Graham stood on the capitol steps in February 1952 and called for congress and the president to establish a day of prayer.  By April of that year, President Truman signed the legislation into public law.

          Our President Kathy Branzell reminds us of the saying, “History belongs to the intercessors who believe the future into being.”

As we believe and pray in 2021, our theme echoes our prayers: “LORD pour out Your LOVE, LIFE, and LIBERTY.” Once again proclaiming a promise of God in our theme verse, 2 Corinthians 3:17 NKJV, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

          “It is our prayer today and throughout 2021 that the Spirit of the Lord would pour out and pour through us across America,” said Kathy Branzell. “We pray to see the Lord fill our lives, families, churches, workplace, education, military, government, arts, entertainment and media, with Biblical, not cultural, not worldly, but Spirit-empowered, Spirit-filled LOVE, LIFE and LIBERTY as designed and defined by our Creator and Savior.”

          We are to be thankful for our Mothers and service men and women, but we should also be thankful for this country and pray that God will restore the biblical values this country needs to continue. Happy Mother’s Day and God bless.
