From the Parsonage…
Do you ever feel like God is sending you a
message that you don't really want to hear? And
that He wants you to share it, even when you don't
really want to? This has happened to me a few
times over the years, and I've learned to sit up and
take notice when it does. Sometimes, it has
followed a time of stress that's been accompanied
by an increased inability to relax or sleep. At other
times, it's been a time of heart searching and
Biblical research as I've struggled to understand a
situation that's going on around me. He may communicate through specific dreams or by putting His word in front of me in unexpected ways. Often, I don't receive a revelation of what it means for days
or weeks afterward. But no matter what the circumstances are, God doesn't let up until I finally acknowledge what He's telling me.
This morning, I sat down to write my February newsletter article. I wanted to write about Valentine's Day and love, but the words just didn't come. Since this article is directed to church members (and since I am the pastor's wife), I decided to go to my computer Bible for some inspiration and opened it randomly without searching for a verse. Keep in mind that the last time I used it, I was in Judges for the Ladies Bible Fellowship, so it should have opened there. Strangely, the verse that popped up was in Paul's Letter to the Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."
Well, that was nice, but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for, so I tried again. This time, I got Philippians 2:15, "that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world." Okay, God, it looks like you're trying to tell me something... that Your children are to be true to Your Word no matter what goes on around them.
But it still didn't seem that His message was complete, so I thought I'd go for the old "third time is charmed" method, and the verse below opened, Jeremiah 2:11-13. Wow! Put the three of these together. Is God sending us a message? You can decide for yourself, but I can tell you that this morning came about after some weeks of spiritual unrest and very erratic sleep patterns on my part. Judging from my past experiences, I'm choosing to pay attention. Go with God and be strong, my friends!
Blessings,
Dona
“Has a nation changed its gods, even though they are no gods? But my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit. Be appalled, O heavens, at this;
be shocked, be utterly desolate, declares the LORD, for my people have committed
two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns
for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water." Jeremiah 2:11-13
