From the Parsonage…

February has always been one of my favorite

months, in spite of the cold.  That might have to do

with the fact that its well known theme is love. I

remember, as a little girl in school, how exciting it

was to buy Valentine cards and then decorate a box

to put them in. We were told by the teacher to make sure we had a card for each student so no one was left out, but, of course, there was always that “special” little boy I wanted to choose just the right card for! Not to mention my teacher! We had what we called Room Mothers back then, and those wonderful ladies had the task of bringing in treats for the class to share on holidays. Fortunately, Valentine’s Day was one of those days that usually resulted in candy, cookies, and cupcakes, which made it even better!

At home, it was always a time my parents celebrated, too. In case I haven’t mentioned it to everyone, my father absolutely doted on my mom for 74 years. He loved doing things for her, getting her gifts and cards, and generally showing her she was loved. One thing I’ll always remember about them was how he would come in the door after work, grab her and twirl her around, and give her a big kiss. So Valentine’s Day was always a big deal for them! A time to express their love…

As Christians, we all know the importance of love. Since Pastor Steve and I came to Maineville UMC, we have had the benefit of the love of this congregation in so many ways. You have opened your hearts to us and made us feel truly accepted. In addition, each and every mission you are involved in is done for the love of others. We are blessed to serve a church whose members so openly show their faith, and we love you!

Blessings,

Dona

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you,

so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you

are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
