            There are definitely times in life when it seems like either God just isn’t paying attention or He isn’t there at all. Anything that can go wrong does, and everything hits at once.  Sometimes, it’s a minor issue like car repairs, losing your babysitter, or allergies

that just won’t go away.  Other times, it may be a

major incident like a serious illness, loss of a job,

or death of a family member.  When these troubles

begin to stack up, one after the other, even the

strongest Christian can begin to have doubts.  It’s

fairly easy to wander along the Christian path when

things are going our way; it’s a lot harder when our hearts are being broken!  That’s when we realize how much we need to depend on God to keep us on that path.  

 

            The month of November traditionally ushers in the “holiday season” each year, a time when we celebrate with our families and offer thanks to our Creator for all He has given us.  It’s usually a time of joy and happiness, but it can also be a time of sadness for those who feel that God has turned His back on them.  The holidays can be especially difficult for families that are experiencing prolonged financial distress or suffering the loss of a loved one.  They may find it hard to accept their current circumstances, and they sure don’t want to thank God for them!

 

            That’s when faith has to step in, when we have to dig deep to try and believe that God still loves us and that He is still there no matter what we are going through.  Although there can be many trials to face, God’s plan is to always keep us close to Him.  In order to accomplish that, He has given us His Word in scripture, as well as fellow believers to support us.  His Word shows us that He has been here since the very beginning and that He gave the ultimate sacrifice for His children.  Fellow believers are here to nurture each other and to remind us not only of God’s love, but of all the gifts He has given us over the years.

 

            Our job is just to trust Him and His perfect Will, even when we can’t understand it.  Once we really learn to do that, we can face all the trials and tribulations the world sets against us and still give thanks to a loving Father, who will never leave us or forsake us.

 

            I’m praying that your upcoming “holiday season” is filled with faith, family, friends, and a peace that surpasses all understanding.
