Dear Lighthouse Church:
We need to be a community and a beacon to the greater community. Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1:5-7:

I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced is in you as well. 6For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
One way to achieve community connection is the church’s activities. For our monthly potluck meal following the service we must ensure that any visitors are encouraged to attend. This brings the congregation together in a relaxed environment that builds a sense of community that contributes to our commitment to mission. During the service we share our joys and concerns, praying for each other and the world. Our prayer chain is highly active. The Visitation Committee is a regular part of our pastoral care, both at parishioners’ homes and hospitals.
One goal is to introduce more young members into active roles, no matter how small. This past year we erected a playset next to the church. A fire pit was created, benches were placed around the campus, both an adult and a child picnic table were built, and the landscaping was updated. Once a month we have a movie night outdoors with movies designed for small children. The adults gather around the fire pit melting marshmallows and making s’mores. One does not have to consider this just a movie event but as an opportunity to socialize.
When we celebrated the 180th anniversary of the church we had two speakers, one of whom is the county historical society’s curator. Tours of the church were given with the walls decorated with memorabilia and posters with historical facts about the church. Invitations went out to past ministers and members, public officials, and the residents. Well over 100 individuals attended. The very process of putting the program together helped to unify the church and its mission. We included the history of the community of Maineville in the event.
Our Bible Study groups reach many who regularly attend Maineville Lighthouse and some who do not. These groups serve God and benefit those who participate. There are many Maineville and Hamilton Township events and projects in which we participate as a church. A Vacation Bible School is being organized for this coming summer. I urge each of you to find at least one thing to devote your time and resources to support. Tell your friends and family members about what we have to offer.
God Bless, Pastor Eric
