Dear Lighthouse:

Consider with me the subject of fellowship in the context of our church and your role in it. Matthew 18:20 mentions Christ's presence where two or three are gathered in His name. When we come together for worship on Sunday or in Bible study or any other activity at church we are actively involved as the body of Christ. Leading with prayer reminds us of our Christian fellowship and caring for one another. Acts 2:42 emphasizes devotion to teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers. Our monthly luncheons and WOW carry out this principle. Regular church attendance leads to community awareness that cannot be achieved in any other way.

1 John 1:7 highlights walking in the light and cleansing from sin through fellowship with one another. Joining together in our walk with Jesus helps us individually in sanctification of our souls. If you are not presently participating in a group please prayerfully consider doing so. Hebrews 10:24–25  encourages stirring up one another to love and good works without neglecting to meet. Small groups are an excellent means to focus the power of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives. When we share joys and concerns we learn about each other and draw together unified for Christ and his mission in a community.

Many of our church members are enduring medical problems. We can help each other sharpen our prayer power, Proverbs 27:17 notes that iron sharpens iron. Those who are strong in Christ can share that strength with others. As one time or another we all need the “iron” of our fellows to devote ourselves to Christ and the mission of the church. Galatians 6:2 calls believers to bear one another's burdens. Visiting the sick and troubled is our duty as members of this congregation, even if it is just a telephone call or note. Praying together for each other unifies us in ways beyond the moment.

This month  you should resolve to become more involved in the church. There are as many ways to do this as there are to accomplish any of the other matters in your life. Take as much care of your church life as you do for all your other pursuits. In fact, make Christ the center of all you do; doing what you can and are called to do. Listen to the heart that your justification has given you in Christ Jesus. Your actions will benefit both you and those whose lives you touch. Fellowship is an important means of devotion and spirituality. Closeness to all your brothers and sisters is nearness to God.

God Bless,

Pastor Eric
