Dear Maineville Lighthouse Church Family:
Debbie and I wish each of you a Merry Christmas. We are blessed to serve as your Pastor family. It is hard to believe it is Christmas already. These past months have flown by.
The story of Our Savior’s birth is recited in Luke 2:1-20 and Matthew 1:18-2:23. Read these passages in anticipation of this glorious day. Matthew 23 tells us “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel,” which was to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah 9:6-7: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” We need to keep this as the center of our devotion in this holiday season.
Christmas is a time to gather with family and friends. No earthly joy can compare to our children and grandchildren opening presents, and the closeness of kinfolk and companions. The day for many memories of family gatherings. For some, including me, it can be sad to remember the lost. For all, it is a reaffirmation of salvation. Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, and rose again. We are blessed by the recollections of the closeness of our family and friends. We are thankful for the time we spend and have spent with those nearest to our hearts.
This can be a time of stress about the perfect tree, the perfect dinner, cleaning the house, or perhaps traveling. Like you, I will be overwhelmed at times, but keep Our Savior ever foremost in your thoughts. This is a period of joy and worship. Nothing must be exactly right to bring us happiness and cheer.
In this season, enjoy yourselves and be merry.
Our Savior is Born! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Christ is born in Bethlehem! Blessings upon each and every one of us!
